Composition Lessons
It is never easy to teach music composition, but I am here to help students develop their creativity, hone their technical skills, and gain a deep understanding of the principles of music composition.
The lessons cover a range of topics, including harmony, counterpoint, form, orchestration, and notation. In addition, I offer guidance on preparing compositions for exams such as IGCSE, GCSE, IB, A-Level, and AP. I tailor lessons to each student’s level of experience and musical interests, so whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, I can help you achieve your goals.
The journey usually begins by understanding the fundamental elements of music, including melody, harmony, rhythm, and structure. Students learn to create memorable melodies, construct harmonies that evoke emotion, and develop rhythmic patterns that drive their compositions. Exploring musical forms, such as binary, ternary, or sonata forms, also helps build a framework for organising ideas into cohesive pieces.
In addition to foundational theory, students delve into techniques like counterpoint, orchestration, and arranging. You will explore how to write for various instruments, from solo piano to full orchestras, ensuring each part complements the overall composition.

In these lessons, I can also introduce you to digital audio workstations (DAWs) and notation software like Sibelius or Dorico to notate, produce, and refine your works.
