Online Music Theory Lessons

From Grades 6 to 8, my course builds on the knowledge that students have acquired in the earlier grades and covers more advanced skills such as harmonisation, four-part writing, figured bass realisation, short composition, and music analysis. These grades require students to complete more substantial questions and are much more hands-on in comparison, challenging them to apply their theoretical knowledge in more complex and nuanced ways.

Below is the outline of my most sought-after Grade 5 Theory Course:

Clefs & Transposition

What’s the point of Music Theory?

Q&A

How long does it take to learn music theory?

Apart from your background, your pace and self-discipline also affect the time needed to complete the course. Motivation, practice habits, and learning style also affect the learning process. However, on average, my students take about 12 to 24 lessons to complete the course at their respective levels.

Must everyone take the Grade 5 Music Theory exam?

No, but it is a prerequisite should you wish to take any ABRSM instrumental exams at Grade 6 or above. It is also often required for admission to music degree programs or advanced music qualifications.

Where can I find out more about the ABRSM exam?

It’s easier to just head to ABRSM’s official webpage! The page is fairly comprehensive and so you will likely find all the details you need, such as registration, fees, exam procedure, etc.
